What a babysitter needs to know is simple: how your children’s day goes, what keeps them safe, and who to call. Use this checklist before you leave.
The checklist
- Bedtime and wake-up routine
- Food, and any allergies
- Comfort toy or blanket
- School or nursery pickup
- Medicines
- Emergency numbers and the child’s doctor
- Pets: food, walks and keys
Fill it in with the babysitter information sheet.
Tell the school or nursery
Let them know who may collect your child in the coming weeks, and give them that person’s name and number.
What to say about the baby
Agree on simple words, for example “We are at the hospital to have the baby, and you will see us soon.” Your child feels safer when everyone says the same thing. Ideas by age are in our guide to preparing your child.
