How the name match works
- Like or skip names, and add your own ideas.
- When you are done, send the link to your partner.
- Your partner likes or skips the same names on their phone.
- Only the names you both liked are shown as matches.
Why your skipped names stay private
Your link does not contain the names you liked: it contains scrambled codes. Your partner’s phone compares codes and shows only the matches. Names you add yourself are shown to your partner as suggestions.
Add names from your family and culture
Our starting list of names is short. Add your own names: family names, names from your culture, anything you love.
From matches to one name
Say each match out loud with your family name and a nickname. Sleep on it, and decide on a calm day. Our guide shows how to agree on a baby name.
Questions people ask
Do we need an app or an account?
No. It works in the browser on your phone. You send one link to your partner.
How does the match work?
Each of you likes or skips names alone. The page shows only the names you both liked.
Will my partner see which names I skipped?
No. Skipped names are never shown, and liked names are only shown when you both like them.
Can we add names from our own culture?
Yes. Add as many as you like. They are shown to your partner to like or skip.
When should we decide on the name?
Many couples decide before the birth, but there is time. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland a birth must be registered within 42 days (GOV.UK). Other countries have their own rules.
What if we still cannot agree?
Agree on a style or a meaning first, then match again. Our guide on how to agree on a baby name has more ideas.
